For what it's worth, when I was recently in Europe I stopped in 3 ADs; 1 claimed they didn't have any, and the other two immediately offered me one. About three years, from the time the 39mm was around until last spring. The wait was worth it. I didn’t want the 39mm rather was hoping the model would return to its classical proportions of 36mm with the 12 model update.

There has been much debate and discussion on this watch on TRF and other forums as its one of the few (if any) times Rolex has gone back to an original design size for a new model. Members of the forum will correct me . Hands-On Rolex Sizes Up A Classic (Again) With The New 40mm Explorer. It's gone from 36mm to 39mm to 36mm.and now all the way up to 40. I waited for a year for an Explorer 1 and last month finally pulled the trigger and went grey.
