The Rolex movement is designed to have the date inset quite a bit on the dial, so there's room for the cyclops. It looks out of whack with the date so far towards the middle and no cyclops. FWIW, that's why the original SeaDwellers had a smaller dial than the Submariner Dates.
The very first Rolex Datejust watches were produced without the equally-famous cyclops magnifier over the date. Legend has it that Rolex founder Hans Wilsdorf’s wife complained of not being able to read the date, and that was what inspired the invention and addition of the x2.5 lens.

The Rolex Datejust 69173 is a masterclass in watchmaking, combining aesthetics with practicality. From its perfectly proportioned case to the iconic Cyclops lens, every element serves a purpose while contributing to the watch’s timeless appeal. To me, a Datejust has to have a touch of bling to it, and I think the cyclops adds just enough. Even if it's the less blingy smooth bezel, oyster bracelet Datejust, the cyclops adds a bit of reflection to the crystal, and a bit of character to the watch. The original Datejust 4467 from 1945 possess nearly all the earmarks of the modern version. The most conspicuously missing feature is the cyclops date magnifier that would become a telltale of the Rolex brand in 1953.
